Ventisquero Grey GCM – Apalta Valley – Colchagua – 2013 – Red/White Selection
Vivid ruby-red. Lively, spice-accented red berry and floral pastille scents, along with hints of allspice and white pepper. Silky and graceful on the palate, offering vibrant raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and an exotic orange zest flourish. A suave and accessible blend with excellent finishing clarity and lift and just a hint of fine-grained tannins. This would be a fun wine to put up against some pretty serious southern Rhônes. –

Platinum Wine Club Picks

Bootleg Red Blend – Napa Valley,CA – 2012 –
Bootleg Red Blend is opulent, plush, and luscious with red and black fruit, soft tannins and velvety texture. In crafting this 2012 Bootleg Red Blend, winemaker Brian Kosi’s intent was to make a big, luscious red blend with loads of dark fruit and power. He used Merlot from Stagecoach Vineyard to serve as the base due to its upfront red fruit and soft tannins that make this wine approachable early on. Combined, the other varietals add structure, depth and richness that bring this blend together. 36% Merlot, 28% Petite Syrah, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah, 4% Zinfandel –

Trinchero Mario’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon – Napa Valley, CA – 2012 –
There are so many layers of complexity in this wine. Boasting a deep ruby, purple tinged hue, it begins with opulent aromas and flavors of candied black currant and blueberry that lead into a fleshy mid-palate thanks to its valley floor origins. This wine has an elegant structure and sumptuous texture—eminently approachable upon release. The tannins are light and pure, and the mouthfeel is incredibly round and supple. –

Hewitt Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon – Rutherford, CA -2013
~Very Limited~

The expansive aromas and flavors exude sumptuous blackberry, Satsuma plum, black cherry and cassis expression, layered with nuances of bittersweet chocolate, rum raisin, roasted espresso bean and sun-warmed rose. There is also an elusive chaparral note that reminds us of an August hike in the golden California hills. This is truly a wine that speaks to both the personality of Hewitt Vineyard and the outstanding, warm and dry 2013 vintage. Hewitt Cabernet Sauvignon is very age-worthy, however, if you can’t wait to drink it, we suggest decanting to allow the flavors to evolve and reveal their great complexity and elegance. Pair with: boldly flavored entrées, aged cheeses or whatever excites your palate. Blend: 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot.95 PTS RP

Staglin Salus Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 – Rutherford, CA -2013
~Very Limited~

Intensely dark, black fruits fill the glass with the blackberry, blackcurrant, boysenberry and ripe Damson plum taking center stage. Unctuous and resinous, the complex notes of leather, coffee extract, cocoa liquor and crushed rocks are given lift and lightness by an integrated essence of camphor, anise and potpourri. While the palate is initially a bit compact and focused, it quickly blossoms into a wonderfully mouth coating elixir with a fine-grained structure and a lively, granular texture that keeps on keeping on. This 2013 Salus Cabernet Sauvignon is at present a big, structured and tightly wrapped wine that will give and grow when given time and air. – 94 PTS RP
